TIPS FOR AVOIDING SLOW PLAY AND 5-HOUR ROUNDS
We are all old and getting older and we move slowly, but nobody likes a 5+ hours round of golf. PLEASE READ and follow these tips to avoid slowing down TTA play:
1. Taking too long around the green after the last player has putted out. After the last man putts out, walk straight off the green, get in your cart and go to the next tee. Mark the scorecards at the next tee, not while you are still sitting by the green.
2. Taking too long to declare a lost ball. USGA rules only permit you 3 minutes (yes, three minutes!) to search for a ball, then by rule you must declare it lost. Drop another ball, hit it, and move on.
3. Be aware of the groups behind you and keep up with the group in front of you. If your group falls behind by more than a half-hole, let everyone in your group know and DO SOMETHING to catch up.
4. Watch where your shots and other players’ shots go until the ball stops, especially tee shots. Make a mental note of some nearby object to mark that spot so you can quickly find it if necessary.
5. Pick up your ball when you reach the maximum score for a hole. Your maximum score is net double bogey. Do not continue to hit shots after you reach that number. Doing so only wastes time and makes everyone wait just for you.
6. Play ready golf. In the TTA, you do not have to wait for whoever is away to hit before you hit. There are times that you may decide to wait until you are away, but playing "ready golf", which means hitting when you are ready, can really speed up play.
Thank you!
